Eye Amulet Tree in Göreme

The Nazar Trees

These pretty glass beads with a blue eye painted on it are ubiquitous in Turkey. They are called nazar boncuğu, or simply nazar. These amulets are believed to protect against the evil eye. We found this lone tree decorated with many amulets from a vantage point above of Göreme valley, Cappadocia. I love the vivid blues of the nazars on the barren tree, with the stark but beautiful landscape in the background.
